Here at Aquarius Dive Shop, we schedule our IDC to meet the challenging time constraints of our candidates who are local as well as those who have chosen to come to Monterey for the IDC.  Our program is designed to synch with the two-day PADI Instructor Exam (IE) administered by PADI Staff scheduled for the weekend immediately following the completion of our course.  This timeline reinforces mastery retention of knowledge and skills to best prepare you for success at the IE and when teaching.

Program Overview

The IDC includes presentations and workshops designed to assure that you are prepared and ready to pass the comprehensive two-day IE where you will demonstrate your ability to teach as you have mastered in the IDC.  As a PADI OWSI, you will be able to teach all PADI core courses from introductory divers through divemaster as well as teach Emergency First Response courses.  You will be able to do additional training with our Course Director to become immediately certified to teach several specialties once you have successfully completed the IE.

The first step in the IDC will be to schedule an informal orientation session with our Course Director, Bruce Weitzenhoffer and the IDC Staff team so that you can become comfortable and familiar with your training team and the curriculum.  We will: verify that you meet all the Prerequisites (see below); answer any questions about the course; and review the performance requirements including what must be completed before the start of the course.  Ideally, this will occur at least two to four weeks before the first in-class session so you have enough time to become prepared for this fun intensive course.  Bruce and his team will be in regular contact with you before the course begins to make certain that you are on track to complete the pre-study requirements which are listed on the Instructor Development Course Program Learning Agreement which will be reviewed, agreed, and signed in the orientation when you make your deposit to reserve your spot in our IDC.

Our IDC is candidate focused.  Our ratio of Candidate:Staff is small: at most 4:1 and often less. Smaller classes enable our team to address different learning styles in a most effective nurturing way. A complete schedule will be provided before the start of the IDC which will outline the entire course.  We will thoroughly review this on the first day of the IDC. We will be conducting the all-new IDC which includes more practical training and fewer classroom lectures so that you can learn even better hands-on real-world-instructor training. All confined water training will take place in a heated pool. For more information contact our PADI Course Director Bruce Weitzenhoffer at 925-586-2747 or via email at bweitzen@yahoo.com.
